Rowboat Human-Centred Design Methodology

Human-Centred Design and Designers talking about HCD on a whiteboard

Human-Centred Design (HCD)

Human-Centred Design (HCD) is a structured methodology that brings people to the front to supercharge problem-solving. It starts with building deep empathy with the people you’re designing for, generating tons of ideas, building a bunch of prototypes; sharing what you’ve made, and eventually putting your innovative new solution out in the world.

Design Thinking

Design Thinking has been defined as a mindset for creative problem solving, but we think it’s much broader than that. For us, it’s the lens through which we see business, innovation and the world around us. At it’s core, design thinking is curiosity, openness, experimentation, exploration and of course, creativity!

Double Diamond Process

We use the double diamond as the backbone of our projects. This process invites us to think big and let our minds run wild with divergent thinking, then we bring it all together through convergent thinking. The double diamond has 4 distinct stages discovery, synthesis, ideation and prototyping.

The 5E’s of Experience

The Five E Framework maps the five stages of a customer journey – Entice, Enter, Engage, Exit, and Extend. This allows us to form the basis of the end-to-end design of environments and experiences. For each stage, we note our end users thoughts and footprints, as well as their positive and negative feelings.
